Americas HPC Collaboration
Initiatives in the America continent for collaboration to support research, development and innovation is important and diverse. Thanks to the partnership between the National Research and Education Networks (NRENS), mainly between RedCLARA (Latin America and Caribe), Internet2 (USA) and CANARIE (Canadá).
The interaction search the leverage of projects and research actions addressed to continental interests with a strong necessity of HPC ressources and advanced computing knowledge.
In a first stage, the partnership is proposed between HPC systems in the three regions: SCALAC, XSEDE and ComputeCanada. However, all actions are open for other actors (national or regional centres (TACC/USA, LNCC/Brazil, CINVESTAV-ABACUS/Mexico, CENAT/Costa Rica, SC3UIS/Colombia), associations (ACM, IEEE), DoE laboratories (ORNL, Argonne), Enterprises (NVIDIA, HPE, Intel), NSF centres and so on) in a open and non-profit partnership. The main goal is to integrate efforts in a community to reach achievements for Americas interests supported by HPC.
These proposed actions are:
– Support for access to HPC ressources
– Accompaniment fo strategic partnership support and mediation for international actions
– Support for training and Outreach
Birds of a Feather: Americas HPC Collaboration : Global Actions

The SC23 edition of the Birds of a Feather Americas High-Performance Computing Collaboration: Global Actions seeks to showcase collaborations that have resulted from the partnerships formed since the first edition at SC19, presenting opportunities and experiences between different HPC Networks and Laboratories from countries in North, Central, and South America with other continents, mainly with Europe. In the BoF, different aspects will be discussed around the expectations and experiences of collaboration in HPC, to feed the continental roadmap. This BoF is a crucial step to support the signature of an MoU to start formalizing the Americas HPC Collaboration.

It will also present opportunities and experiences between different HPC Networks and Laboratories from countries in North, Central, and South America. The goal of this BoF is to show the current state of the art in continental collaboration in HPC research, latest developments of regional collaborative networks, and to update the roadmap for the next year for the Americas HPC partnerships.
Supercomputing Conference Series: Bird of Feather AMERICAS HPC Collaboration
Since 2015, the goal of the Bird of Feather is to join the different actors in partnership around HPC and Advanced computing projects, showing the current state of the art in continental collaboration in HPC, latest developments of regional collaborative networks and, to update the roadmap for the next years for the Americas HPC partnerships.
The BoF Americas HPC Collaboration seeks to present different collaboration experiences between Institutes, Supercomputing Centers, Laboratories, Research Groups and Networks such as XSEDE, Compute Canada, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Argonne National Laboratory, Bridges, etc. with their different peers in Latin America such as SCALAC, RICAP, Brazilian Scientific Computing National Laboratory; CINVESTAV-Abacus, Mexico, National Laboratory for High Performance, Chile; Advanced Computing Center, Colombia and more. This BoF will also present the state of the art of continental collaboration in HPC, discuss current and future regional perspectives and interchange practices that address common problems and challenges.

This fourth Birds of a Feather (BoF) Americas High Performance Computing (HPC) Collaboration seeks to showcase collaborations that have resulted from the partnerships formed in the last edition of this BoF at SC19. It will also present opportunities and experiences between different HPC Networks and Laboratories from countries in North, Central, and South America. The goal of this BoF is to show the current state of the art in continental collaboration in HPC, latest developments of regional collaborative networks, and, to update the roadmap for the next two years for the Americas HPC partnerships.
The BoF Americas HPC Collaboration seeks to present different collaboration experiences between institutes, supercomputing centers, national laboratories, research groups and networks such as XSEDE, Compute Canada, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Argonne National Laboratory, Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center with their different peers in Latin America such as SCALAC, RICAP, Brazilian Scientific Computing National Laboratory; CINVESTAV-Abacus (Mexico), National Laboratory for High Performance ( Chile), Colombian Advanced Computing Center, performed by SC3UIS (Colombia), National High Technology Center (Costa Rica), and more.
This BoF will also present the state of the art of continental collaboration in HPC, discuss current and future regional perspectives and exchange practices that address common problems and challenges. There were approximately fifty participants in SC15 and SC17, XX participants in SC19 which included attendees from non-profit organizations, academia, government, and Industry. For SC20, we expect the same level of participation.
The outcomes of this BoF are described next. First, build, on top of our previous discussions at SC15, SC17, and SC19, an official Americas HPC Partnership, on behalf of the interest shown by XSEDE, ComputeCanada and SCALAC (with the support of RedCLARA). We will also have invited speakers from the U.S. Department of Energy Leadership Computing Facilities at ORNL and ANL, influencers from regional academic networks, leaders of laboratories and centers, and industrial partners. Second, we will evaluate the collaborations of the last year, and finally, define a new Americas HPC Partnership roadmap for the next two years .
